PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
Explorer Post 2773 is sponsored by the Pottstown Area Police Athletic
League in cooperation with the Administration and Officers of the Pottstown
Borough Police Department. Keeping in mind that there are no
employment requirements for a member or other similar stipulations
after leaving the post, there are several purposes to our program:
Being associated with a
very experienced and diverse police department, we allow members to
explore many phases of law enforcement. If a member were to pursue a
career in law enforcement, this will allow them to choose the division
of work they would best excel and be happiest in.
TRAINING AND ACTIVITIES
All Police Explorers, after being accepted into the program, go through
an intensive training program and classes at bi-weekly meetings. Explorers
also take field trips to local points of interest and witness demonstrations
by other officers on meeting days. After passing tests of knowledge
and maturity, Explorers continue their training with "hands-on"
assignments in different divisions of the Pottstown Police Department.
Explorers assist police personnel in crowd and traffic control, parades,
bicycle rodeos, walk-a-thons, and other community events. As the post
is also a member of the Boy Scouts of America, they also participate
in large Boy Scout events and functions.
