NEW OFFICER SWORN-IN

On Friday July 15, 2005 Mayor Anne Jones conducted a ceremony to swear-in Pottstown's newest patrolman.  Twenty-three year old Officer Steven Dise, who is married with one daughter, is a 1991 Phoenixville High School graduate.  Officer Dise was formerly employed as a part-time Phoenixville police officer and as a security officer at the Radisson Hotel in King of Prussia, PA.

Officer Dise immediately began his Field Training, being directly supervised by a Field Training Officer - A senior officer who specializes in training new officers - for the next sixteen weeks.  The addition of Officer Dise to our ranks brings our current staffing level back to thirty-nine (39) officers.  Over the next month, four (4) more officers will be added to our staff - two will be attending the Police Academy and will not "hit the streets" until January 2006.

We welcome Officer Steven Dise to our ranks!

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT ACTIVITIES PLANNED

Tuesday August 2, 2005 has been designated as the 22nd National Night Out by the National Association of Town Watch.  Communities across America, including Pottstown, will join together to send a message to would be criminals - "Our neighborhoods are organized and you are not welcome!"

National Night Out started in 1984, originally including the 'Lights On Campaign' and 'Front Porch Vigils'.  Today, National Night Out has evolved into block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from the police, festivals, neighborhood walks, safety fairs, contests, rallies, and meetings. ( To learn more about National Night Out history, click here)

This year Pottstown will participate in National Night Out, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with activities planned at four (4) locations; the Church of the Brethren (5th and York Sts.), Washington St. between Lesher Alley and Walnut St., St. Paul's UCC (Franklin & Grace Sts.), and the 600 Block of Walnut St.  Events will include food, games, visits from the Pottstown Police Department, music, food, and fun.

Members of our Community are encouraged to participate in National Night Out and invited to attend these events.  Additionally, Pottstown Town Watch representative Bill Sharon is requesting that "Pottstown Community members turn on their outside lights during National Night Out as a show of unity against criminal activity."

For more information about Pottstown's National Night Out activities, Bill Sharon can be reached at 610-970-6520.

ANONYMOUS INFORMATION LEADS TO ARRESTS

Over the past month seven individuals listed on the PPD Most Wanted Persons web page were taken into custody.  Pottstown Police Captain Allan Ewing indicates that five of the seven were arrested "after we received information from different anonymous sources who had observed the wanted persons on our web site."  The other two individuals turned themselves in after seeing the information on our site.  Captain Ewing, pleased over the anonymous information stated that he "thank(s) the public for their response and help in getting these wanted people off of the streets."

If you recognize any of the people listed on the PPD Most Wanted Persons web page, you can either email us or call us (610-323-1212) with the information.  All information received is handled confidentially.
