POTTSTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
COMMUNITY RESPONSE UNIT (CRU)
In furtherance of our Mission,
in April of 2001 the Pottstown Police Department formed the Community Response
Unit (CRU) to help our community deal with quality of life issues. This unit - staffed with highly motivated plain clothed and
uniformed officers and
supervisors - is tasked with dealing with problems as they arise,
problem solving (identifying and dealing with the underlying causes of the
problems), and addressing narcotics related issues.
In addition to conducting criminal and narcotics investigations, the CRU deals with issues such as abandoned vehicles, problem houses/apartments, and locations where there are multiple calls for service. Unit members work closely with the District Attorney's Quality of Life Initiative personnel, Codes Enforcement personnel, and social service agencies. CRU personnel also work cooperatively with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Narcotics Enforcement Team and Drug Task Force as part of their problem-solving mission. Additionally, CRU members conduct community relations activities such as; facilities tours, participation in community wide events (Kid Fest, Family Fest, Community Days, etc.), public speaking engagements, etc.
